Proud to Be A Phillie
I just want to say this is the most fun group of guys I've played with during 11 years in the big leagues.I don't consider this a disappointment. We got beat. They've got a lot of talent in the Yankees clubhouse, and they should be proud of what they did. And not to be disrespectful in any way, but I still feel like we had the better ballclub. But we got beat. It happens, you know? Sometimes you have to step back and tip your cap.
But like I said, this group of guys is making it very hard for me to say, "Hey, I'm going to go home and retire." For me personally, it will be a family decision. Ruben Amaro Jr. has a lot to say about that as well, obviously. But I still love to play the game, and I still love to go out there and compete. And I still feel like I do a good job with it. But this group is unbelievable to be around. We've got superstars who don't act like it.
I was scared to death when I got here in August 2008. Honestly. The Phillies were the first team on my no-trade list. After the 2005 season I was supposed to have lunch with Rich Dubee about coming here. They told me they would be able to give me a three-year deal back then. I went to Chicago instead. I would have loved to have been in Philly that whole time. Dan Plesac and Jon Lieber told me something before I got here: Do your job and approach the game the right way. This is a blue-collar city. The fans are at the ballpark every night. They boo you if you don't do your job, but they cheer the heck out of you when you do. And that's so rewarding.
If this is it I've enjoyed my time here as much as I've enjoyed anything in this game.
Thanks for helping make that happen.

You guys are all true Champions! We enjoyed watching you pitch tonite. You did a great job. Have a wonderful offseason and prayers for your surgery to go well. Trust you will be back again with the team next season. If not, you will really be missed, Scott. Thanks for doing the blog. It's a great way to keep in touch with the phans and for us to feel a part of it all. God bless you and your family.

Scott, I'm proud to be a Phillies fan. Thank you guys for making every moment of this season enjoyable. I've been watching the Phillies since I was a little girl in the early '90s, but this team in particular has just captured my heart. You guys are so fun to watch and to cheer for. I know we can be a tough city to play in, but we're tough because we care, because we live and die with the team. Whatever you decide to do next season, know that the city will always welcome you back. Once a champion, always a champion. I'll never forget the amazing ride you and the boys have given us these past couple of years (I grew up listening to my parents talk about how great the teams in the 1980s were...now I'll be able to tell my kids one day about watching this group of players). The Yankees may have taken the crown this year, but I know we'll be back next year. New York better watch out :)

Scott, I just want to say thank you and all the rest of the team for everything this year! Thank you in particular for writing this great blog! I watched every single Phillies game this year, didn't miss a single one, and could not have enjoyed it more. Through all the ups and downs you guys are a team that I feel great about rooting for. I don't just cheer for you cause you're from my city, but I am proud to cheer for you because you all have such passion and heart about the game. Even in Shane's final at-bat tonight, even tho you were down 4 runs, with 2 outs in the 9th he did not just give up and took a 10 pitch at-bat. And that to me represents this team. I agree, you could have definitely beaten the Yankees, you were just as good if not better, but unfortunately they won the games that took place on these few days. If you don't come back next year you will be sorely missed, but do whatever is right for your wife and children because in the end they are what really matter. You'll always be a Phillie to us and honestly, I could not be more proud to be a Phillies fan than I am right now. Thanks so much for everything and can't wait for next season. Time to take back the title :)
And PS. The Yankees may be World Champions, but the Phillies will always be the World F*cking Champions!

Scott,
The Yankees may have won the World Series, but you guys (Phillies) are my true heros. Phillies got to the World Series 2 years in a row and that's huge for any team. You are right, Phillies do have an awesome ball club. That's because of how you guys are as human beings and there is true unity.
I will miss you and I wish you alot of luck. Maybe you'll come back and do other things for the Phillies. Hugs to everyone and enjoy the off season.

Scott,
First of all, YOU did a great job out there & I'm glad that all that "warming up" you talked about was worth it & you got a chance to come into the game. I am very happy that you've posted this blog & I know this last one had to leave a lump in your throat. I know that I felt tears in my eyes reading todays blog. I admire you & you put your family first. We'd all love to see you come back, but if that's not meant to be, there must be a reason.
You're right, this group of guys is terrific & we are all proud, I agree with the last comment it was the same in EVERY living room & bar in Philadelphia... bottom of the ninth, down by three, 2 outs, Shane was amazing. I can only imagine the pressure on him, but we all were hoping he'd get walked & Chase would put us back in the game! We all KNEW you guys could've won!!!!
God Bless you Scott in your future endeavors & who knows what the future may hold... this is a terrific organization!!
Thanks for a wonderful year!

Scott, I echo all the sentiments here so far. I wish you had been with the Phillies longer, too, because I have enjoyed watching you on this team. I loved the MLB series "The Pen" that followed you guys for the first half of the season. I felt like I got to know you a little better. It was really fun seeing you with your family! Whether you come back or retire, I wish you the best and God's blessings as well. The Phillies have been our family team for at least 4 generations! You did something no other Phillies team did - went to the World Series two years in a row. We love you all!

First of all, I'd like to say THANK YOU to you and the rest of the team for a great season. I never thought that I'd see the day where I would get to see my favorite team go to the World Series 2 years in a row. If you decide to retire, just know that you were part of a great team and those are the memories you will carry with you for the rest of your life. Good Luck to you and your family with whatever you decide to do. Maybe I'll be seeing you in March. Also, good luck on your surgery. GO PHILLIES!

Good Morning Scott,
I hope you read this. I want to THANK you and the rest of the Phillies for a great season and great post season. It has been fun. I am a Phillies fan win or lose. I always was and always will be. I hope to see you back here in April. You have been a great part of this team. Thank you for writing to us fans. It is always great hearing things from a player's side. Please let the rest of the team know how proud us fans are of them and can't wait to start all over again next season. The Phillies are always CHAMPIONS to me. You guys should be proud, we are.
Have a great off-season. See you in April!!!!!!

Scott, great season! Thanks to you and the team for playing hard, being winners and representing Philadelphia well. Yes, we would have liked to been part of a repeat, but you lost as a team and I don’t have that empty heart-broken frustrated feeling that I had back in ’93. If you knew what the fans went through that season, then you would know why I didn’t want Brad being hung out to dry (just ask Mitch).
This city loves this team. This team is extremely talented, humble and likable lovable. I believe it comes from Ryan Howard, the big guy who is fun loving, speaks softly and carries a big stick. I believe his attitude allows others to be themselves. Instead of having this hard-***, tough guy attitude, you are able to be a highly talented team that is straight forward, honest and approachable. That is a big reason you are the beloved team in this town.
Scott thanks for this venue to express my thoughts. It helps for me to have an outlet. Have a relaxing off season and I hope to see on the team next season.

Scott,
Thank you for even writing this after that disappointing loss. You guys ARE the better ballclub, it just didn't work out this year. I have no doubt the Phillies can be back next year. Isn't it amazing how the Phillies broke long-standing Yankee records (like Lou Gehrig from 1928?) that none of the current Yankees have broken? And as far as I'm concerned Chase Utley already broke Reggie Jackson's WS home run record because Chase did it in 5 games and it took Jackson 6 games (please!). Scott, you pitched really well last night, and I wish you would consider coming back. We need steady, even-tempered guys like you in the pen who can handle a big lineup like the Yankees without being intimidated. Please tell all the guys that we fans had an amazing season of baseball and looking forward to next year. THANK YOU PHILLIES!!!!!!!!!!!!

Come back to Philly next year, please?

Scottie-too-hottie! :)
Congratulations on an awesome season and for making back-to-back World Series!! You are a first-class group of guys and it shows, and that in itself makes me so proud to be a Phillies fan, and to proudly wear my Phillies gear today, even after the loss. I think I saw someone else's comment on here at some point that said something about needing a lot of money to play on Broadway, but needing a lot of HEART to play on Broad St....there's no better way to put it because that is 110% truth! Thank you so much for doing this blog, and I know you will do whatever is best for you and your family, but we would certainly love to see you back next year! Extend a big thank you and some big love to all the rest of the guys for another great year and for doing us proud. I'll be looking forward to next year...hopefully we will be able to three-peat in the World Series and bring another red banner to Philly!! :)
GO PHILLIES!!

I am not going to lie to you. I was disappointed that we lost because I know that the Phillies are the better team and I wanted us to prove to everyone that the Phillies deserve recognition. But you are right we don't need recognition from anyone or a monstrous ballpark or a team built on money we just need talent and heart and the Phillies have all those qualities. I am proud of you guys. Thank you for a great season!!!!!!!! Wish you the best and a great season next year. Go Phillies!!!!!!!!

We're proud to have you as a Phillie! This team has done so much to bring this city together and I have never been around a team that a city has embraced like we have with you guys. And you all deserve it. You go out there and bust your butts every night and play with your hearts on your sleeves. We all appreciate that! I love this team and I'm so proud of you guys for getting back to the World Series agin this year. I have no doubt we'll see the Phillies there again next year. I hope that you decide to return to the team, but if not, I have enjoyed having you here! You're a great addition to our bullpen in attitude and talent. Have a wonderful off-season and I hope to see you in our bullpen again next season!
Thank you and MUCH love to the Phils!

I love this team & I watched or listened to every single game. You guys are still my champs! No one thought we'd even have a shot at winning the NL East this year, much less be in the World Series.
You did a great job this year--stepping up when JC Romero was out. We've really enjoyed having you on the team--you always looked like you were having fun. Maybe you'll be back--good luck with the decision.

Scott - It's always tough losing (and I can't say I'm not sad after last night), but wow, what an amazing season. I'm so glad we got to see you pitch last night; hopefully we'll see you next year as well, but if not, best of luck in the future!
Thank you so much for writing this blog (and with such regularity!). I've loved checking in to get a sense of the team surrounding the postseason, and if anything, it has just made me respect you all as a team more. I can't wait til next season, and I've never been prouder to be a Phillies fan :)

Scott,
Thank you so much for everything you have contributed to the team. Your skills as a pitcher, ridiculous humor & passion for the game have not gone unnoticed. Philadelphia can be a tough town to play in. The fans have been called "Drunken Uglies" from certain idiot LA columnists & repeatedly bad mouthed by some of our favorite (NOT!!!!) TBS & FOX Commentators. In almost every interview I have seen from you it seems you always acknowledge how tremendous the fans in Philly have been & your support of the fans is greatly appreciated. I hope us fans will have the pleasure of enjoying your humor & pitching talents for at least another season. Enjoy the off- season. Thousands of Phillies fans are hping to see you in the bullpen on opening day in Washington..... I can see the headlines now "Phillies fans take over DC and sell out Nationals Park for opening day!!" - How can you not be a part of that!!!! lol

Scott,
I'm very proud to be a Phillies fan. This team is the best team I've ever cheered for. Because win or lose, you guys do it with your heads held high and you play like brothers. That MLB Beyond Baseball ad on TV that talked about you guys playing like brothers is true. We can all see it clear as day. I think that's why this city has a love affair with this team. You guys are great role models for our children and even for us adults. In 93, I was heart broken, today I know 2010 will be awesome! I was listening to some NY fans try to "rub salt in my wounds" today, but it didn't bother me. When they ask "how does it feel", I simply said this. "It feels a lot better than you would think. We just won our 2nd NL title, our 3rd division title, and we know next year will bring us a 4th division title and 3rd NL title, and hopefully a chance to beat the new champs in the World Series next year." I just wish Stairs bomb last night was fair, that would have been an awesome way to lose, but you guys lost with style. You play hard, and we love you for it. Personally, Scott, I wish you all the best. Hopefully, you will return, but family is important. Thank you for your blogs this year, I hope you will continue to write one in or out of baseball. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and a safe and joyful holiday season. You and your teammates earned it.

Scott,
We are all definitely so grateful for what you and the rest of the team has done for this city. I know I personally would love to see you don the pinstripes for another season next year. As a fantasy baseball enthusiast, I was a fan of yours back when you were a Cub and was glad to see you come to our fine city. I hope that you (and Ruben!) decide to give it one more go around in 2010. You guys are a phantastic team and I am so happy and proud to be a Philadelphian knowing you are representing us on the diamond. The Yankees may have won this one, but the Phillies are arguably the classiest, most all-around talented team around!! Enjoy your offseason, rest a lot, and see you in April!

I can't tell you enough how fascinating this year was and how truely great all of you are. Its so easy to get wrapped up in each and every game. I think my heart was in my stomach and vice versa more times than I can remember. We attended the Phillies Festival, and it was terrific being able to get up close and personal with many of you. My daughter and I also attended the Phillies 101 in August and enjoyed it so much, we may do it again next year. We love how you all have each others back, and truely enjoy playing the game, just as if you were on the playground, although this is a mighty big one! My grandchildren love you guys, and so far, all but one has been able to get a ball thrown to them at the end of an inning. Good luck with your upcoming surgery. Get healthy and have a speedy recovery. Can't get enough of you guys!

This team is special. You guys are the most resilient gorup I've seen in any sport, ever. The city shows this team affection like I've never seen us show any team before. I will respect your decision this offseason but if you ask me, DON'T RETIRE! You're a great guy out of that bullpen and I feel very comfortable when you're on the mound. This team is unbelievable and Philly loves you guys and is proud of this team for everything they've done. Way to go and keep it going! Can't wait for the 2010 season to start!

Hey Scottie,
I'm sure you don't remember me but i met you in August in Chicago at Wrigley. It was Game 2 of a 3 game series against the Cubs. My family and I were standing along the first base line in right field during bp. We were really upset that no players were coming over or throwing balls to us or anyting. There were 2 phillies phans standing next to us. They got you to come over and sign autographs. You came right to us, and I was SO excited. they were really funny guys, and they were asking you what music you like. you said 'country', they said, 'do you like taylor swift?' and then you said one of my favorite lines of all time: 'i'm not gay!' right then and there you became my favorite player. when you were signing my hat, i said, 'do you like the song in the air?' you said, 'i've never heard of it, i'll have to look it up on youtube.' that was so cool to me. i walked around saying, 'i gave scott eyre music advice!' obviously, you are known for not smiling in pictures. but (this was probably the coolest thing that has ever happened to me) i asked you to smile for the camera AND YOU DID! i actually framed the picture! to top it all off, the phigtins won on pedro's debut, 12-5, after an awesome game, especially when the guy threw the beer on shane- that was so cool!:)sorry for talking so much, but i am almost done. we went to the game on 9/28 for my birthday. we got there early for bp. they had this thing where you could text a # with a message and it would show up on the scoreboard. well, i'm not sure if you saw it or not, but i texted in: "I love you, Scott Eyre! Chicago was fun, wasn't it? hahaha love, molly :)" ok, well, those are my stories of you. oh, and by the way, i heard that you might retire next year, and i will be sad, but whatever happens, don't get traded!! (unless you are traded to like the nationals or something so that i can come see you play against the phils.) hahaha. okay, well, great season! you were like dynamite! way to shut 'em down!
Go Phillies! Great Season! Love, Your Chicago Pal Forever, Molly :) Age 12

I am a full season Ticket Holder, this was my 3rd year as such, As a lifelong Phillies Fans, I can honestly say this was/is the best Team In Phila Sports History. Last Year was Great, never forget that Parade ( sure you guys wont either) but this years Playoff run was awesome. I hope you come back, I just spent a good amount of Dough on your 08 WS Champ autographed Photo.. Move the Family up here permanant and when you do retire, you and your family will be treated like royalty Forever, in my eyes and a whole bunch of True Phillies fans, this whole 08, 09 team is Royalty !
Thank You for what you do ! Have a great offseason, hope all goes great w your surgery !! Get well !

Oh, i forgot to even say something about those darn yankees! you shouldn't be upset about losing. i think that it is more important that you have a city of phans who truly love you and this team than to have another world championship. you have to admit, the yankees are a good team, but they just don't have that same kind of brotherly bond in the city of brotherly love! the '09 yankees will be in their fans' minds for a couple of years, but this phillies team will be in our hearts forever, and that is the true difference between these 2 teams (that and the fact that we are just awesomer!) money can buy a good team, but it cant buy good guy with a loving bond. Go Phillies! We Rock their Big, Bad, Broadway, Bully Butts! Get 'em next year! Love, Your Chicago Buddy Forever, Molly :)

Scott,
Thank you for all you have done (so far) in your short tenure as a Phillie. I have been a die-hard Phillies fan for all of my twenty-one short years, and these last two years have certainly been the best. Losing to the NY Yankees - the most successful franchise in sports history - is nothing to be ashamed of, and it's great to see that you and the rest of the Phillies understand that. (Also, I think I could get used to seeing this World Series match-up occur very frequently in the near future.) In a season full of bullpen woes, you were certainly a sure thing every time out there. Don't get me wrong; I still love the other guys as well and NEVER doubted them, but every time you (and Park) took the mound it was sigh of relief. You have also shown that you can pitch with an injury and still thrive. I would love to see you back here in Philly next year; you and JC would be the most formidable pair of bullpen lefties in the majors. At the same time, I understand the importance of family. Best of luck in the future Scott, thanks for making the player-fan relationship more personal, and congratulations on another excellent season!

All of the Phils' coaches and players should definitely be proud of yourselves! You are amazing! HK would agree! No doubt about it. I know you all need a break, but I'm looking forward to next season already. I might have to buy a few more of the Phillies dvd's to watch in the off-season. My family & I will be going through Phillies withdrawl again this winter. Go Phils! We love you guys! Thank you Scott for taking the time to write this blog & we wish you the very best!

Dear Scott,
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I know we're all feeling a little flat/disappointed/shocked right now, but you've given us something that we probably never thought would be our reality - two back-to-back appearances in a championship round. We're batting .500 (figuratively, not literally obviously) in the WS over the past two seasons, and NO ONE else can say that.
The Phillies are more than a color to wear, a hat to throw on, a game to go watch. You're a representation of an entire city....a city that, like you, often feels like the underdog. You take on the personality of this town and run with it, and give us something to truly be proud of.
So we came up two games short. We'll get them next year, and then some. We hope to see you back, you're such a class act and great member of the 'pen....but whatever you decide, just know that you've won the hearts of this town, and that's not always an easy thing for an athlete to do :-)
Enjoy your off-season, you've deserved it. And thank you again.

Scott, I want to thank you and the rest of the team for. a great season. You guys gave it all you got. Us fans will remember this year and last year for many years to come.
I enjoyed the series "The Pen". It brought fans closer to you guys in the Pen and it showed just how close you guys are there. I especially enjoyed Chan-Ho Park's "American Taco" line and the hair cut contest judged by J-Roll among other things in that series.
I wish you good luck on your elbow surgery on Mond ay.
I am glad that you said that you will always wear a "P" on your cap and that you will only sign with the Phils if you decide to come back. I'm sure that Ruben Amaro, Jr. wants you back. Scott,
Thanks for another great season of Phillies baseball. I tell many people that this is the greatest Phillies team ever, simply because you guys reached the ultimate goal in 2008, and were two wins away in 2009. No other Phillies team can say that. It's a great feeling to be in Philadelphia and be a Phillies fan. It was most definitely disappointing to lose the World Series, but I'm still proud of this team, and have all the High Hopes in the world for you guys next year. I know I'll be back at the Bank in 2010 to watch you guys win even more. If this was your last season, you definitetly went out on top. I still wouldn't mind if Ruben agreed to let you come back even for just one more year. Good luck with the surgery Monday, hope everything goes well. Again, thanks for making us forget our problems and back the best team in baseball.

My family is so proud of the Phillies team this year - in the spring there weren't many media types calling for the team to make it to the World Series (or even postseason) so the Phillies proved once again how tough they truly are. Thank you to all the Phillies for giving us this great season. The Yankees may have won the Series (this year anyway!) but I still think the Phillies have more heart and soul.
Like so many others have commented, thank you, Scott, for letting us in on the inside scoop of the team. It has been so much fun reading your comments (and I'm not real keen on most blogs)! I still find myself laughing about the "fast shoes" story! Wherever your life's path (in any of your shoes) does take you, thanks for being a part of the Phillies. Yes, the Philly fans may be tough but we don't forget our players. Especially the ones with a lot of heart...

You are right! We are the best TEAM in baseball. It has been my pleasure to see and talk with you over the past season and a half. You've been great with the kids and fans of Philadelphia. You are a credit to the Phillies and just one of a series of important pieces to our recent success. I wish you well with your upcoming surgery and hope that you are part of the 2010 Phillies Team. Hope that you'll keep in touch. Just call me - Dugout Bill from the dugout roof at CBP.

Scott, I hope all goes well with your surgery. Hope you're a Phillie next year. The Cubs' loss was definitely, absolutely OUR GAIN! Be good to yourself!

Scott, thank you so much for the last year and a half. From the moment you started pitching for the Phils, most of us phans knew that the Phils had ripped the Cubbies off! The Cubs were the best team in the NL at the time, and the Phils were struggling to catch up with the Mets. You were the common link for the reversal of both teams. Maybe if you had stayed on the Cubs, they would have won the WS. I don''t know. But I DO know we couldn''t have won it all last year or made it to the WS without Scott Eyre. No matter what you decide, every phan will always remember your contributions. Personally, I think you have at least another two or more years in that left arm of yours, but I'm not a GM. Whatever you decide, take care during the winter, and heal up 100% after your surgery, which reminds me- Thanks for pitching in the post-season with that injury. GOD BLESS YOU and YOUR FAMILY. Hope to see you in a Phillies uniform in March in Florida!

If Scott retires, I hope the Phils will make a special "Scott Eyre Day" at the Bank, where they can hire him for one day, so he can officialy retire in front of all the phans (like Lieberthal did), so we can give him a 10-minute standing ovation to show our appreciation for how much he has impacted our city.

Scott,
Thanks for everything. Enjoy your family and your retirement. You were a great Phillie. But keep in shape, please, so when August and September roll around and we need an extra arm, they can put you back out there instead of Pedro!
Congratulations on a great career in Philadelphia.

Scott,
Just got the news of your retirement. I'm sure you will be greatly missed in that club house because even to us fans you were a breath of fresh air. Thanks for all the hard work you put in. We could all tell that you truly enjoyed the game in every facet. Have a great retirement and summer with the fam, you truly deserve it...although I echo the sentiments of boblazarav about seeing you in august!

Scott, just read that you are going to retire. Sorry to see you go. Not my decision, but I would have ponied up the 2 million to see you once more in a Phillies uniform. You had a lot to do with the fun we phans had the last two seasons.
You are one of the good guys and I was happy to see you celebrate a World Series before you hung 'em up. Stay healthy; you never know. You may get a call around June or July.

Scott,
Just read from Phan52 that you are retiring. Good luck from this Dodger fan! I love your story about the Dodgers and Vin Scully! I love, love, love them both!!

Scott,
We'll miss you. You seem like a really good guy and it's great you get to leave with such good memories. Enjoy your trip. Kids and 4 dogs in an RV across country, huh? You should film a reality show, I'd watch.
